A Brief Experiment with AI-Generated Florals

I spent an afternoon experimenting with AI-generated floral imagery. The four images below are the result, made with ChatGPT rather than shot on my camera.

I wanted to see what AI could do with dahlias: submerged underwater with light breaking through the surface, and suspended in a hanging installation inside a grand, sunlit hallway. Neither is something I could easily build or photograph in real life, which is what made the experiment interesting.

But even being genuinely impressed by what AI can produce in seconds, I still prefer my own way of working. I love photography because of the process — framing a shot, adjusting for the light, waiting for the right moment before I click the shutter. That’s not something AI replicates, and it’s the part I’d never want to trade away.

These four images are AI-generated, not photographs. Everything else in my Journal is shot on my Canon 5D Mark III, using natural light only.
