Blue is one of the rarest colors in the flower world — which is part of what makes delphinium and hydrangea so worth building a composition around. Here they fill the frame almost completely, the deep cobalt and violet tones of the delphinium spires reaching upward while the hydrangea clusters create mass and depth on either side.
At the centre, cream and burgundy blooms anchor the composition with warmth — preventing the blue from becoming cold and giving the eye somewhere to rest before travelling outward again. The white sculptural vase holds everything together, its curved form echoing the fullness of the arrangement above it. A few fallen petals at the base complete the scene.
Photographed against pure black, the blues glow with an intensity they would lose entirely against a lighter background.
