Petals pressed edge to edge against black — no stems, no soil, just bloom after bloom in a color story I shaped rather than found in the garden. I work with color the way a painter might: not always to record what’s there, but to build a particular mood. Here it’s blush, mauve, wine, and porcelain white — deeper and more saturated than nature usually offers, chosen to give the image its own quiet drama.
What stays true to the flower is the detail: each bloom carries its own dark, whiskered face at the centre — the velvety marking that gives pansies their name. Photographed close and layered like a still life, the arrangement reads almost like a tapestry: soft where the petals catch the light, rich and matte where they fall into shadow.
Pansies are humble, garden-variety flowers, and this image treats them like something rarer. Every bloom is different — a different depth of purple, a different flush of pink, a different pattern radiating from the centre.
