Coral peonies at the moment just before they let go — petals loosening, colors softening from coral into blush and cream, the whole composition suspended between fullness and fall. There is something extraordinary about a flower at this stage. Not the tight bud, not the peak bloom,
but this — the graceful, unhurried process of releasing.
This photograph was made to capture exactly that quality. The peonies are not declining. They are completing.
