The tulips here are Jonquière French tulips, opened all the way — and that’s the part I love about this variety. Closed, they’re classically elegant, the kind of tulip everyone pictures. Fully blown open like this, they turn into something else entirely: loose, ruffled, almost indistinguishable from a poppy at first glance. That’s exactly why I put them together. Red and soft coral poppies beside cream and blush tulips, both with that same crumpled, papery quality, until the eye stops separating one flower from the other.
Against black, everything else falls away and it’s just colour and texture, woven together rather than arranged side by side.
