Anemones, ranunculus, muscari, lisianthus and viburnum — flowers from the same early spring week, photographed together from directly above. The anemones carry the most weight, their dark centers and wide white faces giving the composition its rhythm. Ranunculus add density, their tightly wound petals catching what little color survives the light. Muscari and viburnum fill the smaller spaces, more texture than statement.
Only the corners of the red crate are visible — just enough to register as a container without competing with what’s inside. The light is so flat and the palette so reduced that the whole thing reads almost like a black-and-white photograph, until you look again and find it isn’t quite.
The title says crate, and that’s the right word. Nothing here was arranged to be admired from a distance — it was packed, close and dense, the way flowers actually travel.
